Begorrah! It worked! Port Wakefield to Snowtown

We woke up to a grey, showery morning and a TAIL WIND! Left at 8.00am and took off like rockets. 15kms or so later Del had another puncture in his trailer wheel. Soon fixed it and then we hit hills! I walked up a couple but Del cycled them all.

Rode past salty Lochiel Lake hoping for a coffee at Lochiel, but it was a ghost town with derelict shops and a burnt out pub.

Arrived in Snowtown - a small settlement - and, in spite of the cold, windy weather, we decided to pitch camp at the local council run camping ground. It has clean toilets and showers, and a microwave for warming our coffee. What more could we want! More tail wind tomorrow would be nice!

Did 48kms today.

What's wrong with this picture? Two Wells to Port Wakefield

You got it! We battled a head wind all the way to Port Wakefield today.

A nice flat road but the legs feel like lumps of lead!
As usual, we stopped every 10kms for a chat, a drink  of water and a break from the seat.

We're travelling along the A1, the Port Wakefield Highway. Little traffic when we left Two Wells at 7.30am, but by mid morning the road trains and caravans were on the road in full force.

Del has the sign on his trailer now and we're getting supportive toots from passing vehicles.

Isn't there a little Irish blessing that goes "May you ever have the sun on your face and the wind at your back"? We'd better put our order in I think.

Did 58kms today.

A Flat Start! Adelaide to Two Wells

Got off to a great start at 7.45am on a fine, windless morning. Traffic was fairly light, as anticipated, and we had a safe cycle lane.

Soon we were out of Adelaide and on the busy A1 motorway with no cycle lane, numerous intersections to navigate through and traffic racing past at 110kms an hour!
We'd only done 10kms when Del's trailer tyre developed a flattie.

He had it fixed in no time and we were on our way again.
The morning turned grey with a developing northerly head wind. It made cycling a little more strenuous so we were happy to stay over night in the little settlement of Two Wells.

We're in an old motel attached to the local pub and there's a small IGA handy. What more could we want!
Only did 40kms today.

What's up at Scotty's?

Scotty's is a large, 50 unit motel complex in Medindie that has definitely seen better days. It featured twice on TV last night - once for its Scotsman's new coat of paint (he's a local landmark) and later for a police call out! The motel has a colourful history apparently. We sure can pick 'em!

Did a trial ride today towing the trailers in busy traffic. A bit wobbly to start but soon adjusted to the weight and the traffic.

It's Queens Birthday Weekend and D Day commemoration today. It's "A Day" tomorrow! Our Adventure begins!

Henleys at Henleys!

Woke up to a glorious morning so decided to cycle along the Torrens River to Henley Beach to give the bikes a WOF - a 40kms round trip.

On a cycle path all the way - through the city, past Adelaide Zoo, over bridges and through tunnels, past quiet streets and through woodland - and a cemetery!

A great ride and very popular with the locals. We'll do a trial ride with the trailers tomorrow!

Bumps bangs and bent bits!

The trailers were knocked about a bit en route. A few hefty wallops with Del's big crescent spanner straightened things up. We were in bed by 8.00pm, pooped!

A grey wet day today. We walked for an hour into the city. Eyed up a cycle ride for Saturday and bought freeze dried meals for days en route when no food is available.

Back at the motel, Del reassembled the bikes. Now.  We're ready to go! Roll on Sunday!

Hello Adelaide!

Our early 3.00am start in Orewa was rewarded with a full day in sunny Adelaide. Arrived soon after 10.00am.

Took a Maxi taxi to Scottys Motel in Medindie. Pretty basic but adequate.

Bussed in to Rundle Mall to buy a SIM card and stores. Traffic was diabolical with big 4WDs and trucks thundering past at great speed.

Will start assembling the trailers later if time allows.
